My Favorite Push-Up for Developing Powerful Punches
Push-ups are exceptionally effective for developing stronger, punches, but explosive push-ups can help your punches become even more powerful.
And standard Pio push-ups work just fine, but this push-up variation can be even more effective while also helping you develop more core strength and shoulders stability for bulletproof joints.
Give these explosive push-ups, a try in this micro workout:
#1 warm-up begin with 20 to 30 seconds of shifting push-ups or a low resistance, push-up variation of your choice
#2 Perform 6-8 lateral jumping push-ups for as many sets as you can until you notice a reduction in power.
#3 Add a finisher of regular push-ups or ring push-ups for 12+ reps for 1-2 sets...

I definitely need to start incorporating more isometrics. For me, I can see two major applications. (1) High tension shorter duration toward the beginning of the workout. (2)Adding lower intensity longer duration at the end of a set or supersetted with my main moves. I do a lot of KB front squats which are a great move, but are limited by the amount of weight I can use and specifically how much tension I can apply to my quads.

Hi Matt. Ive just bought your isometric book and find it very interesting. I'm one of the people you have been talking about I have been a gym member and consistent since before covid but haven't lost any weight. I was a lifter of weights and could dead lift 65kg , i thought was was good for a 52 yr old menopausal woman. Anyway back to your book i was reading it and you recommend you other two books before that one so i went and bought the other two books. I had to cancel my gym membership as i cant do my job anymore as a gardener as i was diagnosed with Hand arm vibration syndrome in January so had to cut some thing to save money. I have spent the last few months walking some of the Tamara trail across the border of Cornwall and Devon in the UK , The trail as a whole is around 83 miles and we have done around 52 miles and still i haven't lost weight.. My home gym consists of bands, two kettle bells 6kg and 10kg and a suspension trainer, i also have a pair of paralettes in the shed which i need to dust off. so i think i'm in good stead to start a calisthenics journey all i need to do is work it into my routine. Do you have many women of a certain age following your RUclips ? Plus would you recommend this type of exercise to you gran, lol?

So zero willpower is needed, I just change clothes and workout, and no one stops me from doing some extra active hanging or some l sit during the day if I have extra energy to invest. It's fantastic.

This way of tracking feels even more hollow than what I already do. I log every one of my sessions publicly on a discord server each day that I workout regardless of what I do, listing what workouts I did, sets, reps, and pace. Publicly logging every time registers in my head as a trophy for having worked out period, even if I only do a couple of workouts that session and even if I do less sets than in the past. And everyone can see I'm still going which feels rewarding. If I just put down a scoreboard somewhere which is static, then it just sits there and means nothing until I manage to beat some number of reps or time goal or something. It doesn't feel active enough.

I think an issue is that people do too much. They've been told that they need to do 3-5 sets. That they need to train 3-5x a week. Drink protein shakes and stock up on creatine. I do only 1 set and train for an hour twice a week and get results. It's basically the Jay Vincent protocol. It's a much smaller time investment, and costs less energy. I don't want to beat up my body. Or fight with myself to force myself to go to the gym because I'm feeling sore and have no energy or will to train. If I had to force myself or put in this huge commitment then I wouldn't last more than three months either. Much of it comes down to standard fitness advice being too much. I also hate stretching and warming up so I don't do it. You don't have to - unless you're feeling particularly stiff that day. Unfit people would get pretty far just doing push-ups alone. One set twice per week. They'll be done in minutes. Let them conquer this exercise first, it might take them a while before their wrists adapt. They could elevate their palms in the beginning, or get on their knees. Then take it from there. Add in another exercise, something you like to do. Diet? Just up protein and cut down carbs for weight loss. No need for cabbage or celery sticks. Fitness is so much easier than it's made out to be. If you begin where you're at and put in consistent effort without imitating or comparing yourself to Arnold Schwarzenegger then the results are gonna come. Most people don't need to do a lot.

Nurse here. I've been able to maintain a healthy body weight for the past 40 years through a balanced diet and lifting. I kinda sorta got caught up in the carnivore diet this year. Let me tell you my results! I successfully gained 20 lbs of body fat and gave myself high cholesterol! I'm back to what works for me ( lean proteins and low fat dairy, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and beans). I've lost 15 lbs in 3 months. I have no idea what I was thinking other than I got caught up in the carnivore "science". Also, every time I eat a bowl of oatmeal, my bank account cries happy tears. Carnivore is expensive.
